How to style your statement jewellery

Jewellery in general is fun and Statement jewellery is extra extra fun! And getting dressed and picking the right pieces for today´s outfit can really make or break your look.

We all know how different types and combinations of jewellery can take a look from minimalistic to chick or totally transform the same outfit from romantic to dramatic.

But what is the best way to style your statement jewellery?

Rules to style your statement jewellery

If you browse around you easily come across a whole bunch of rules. Do this, not that, don´t combine these, don´t wear this without that and so on and so on.

So what is really the right thing to do in this jungle of, often contradicting, advice?

The most important parts, in my opinion is to consider the following things while picking the right jewellery for your outfit.

1. OCCASION

Where are you going? And why? What is the purpose of you going there and how do you want the people you meet to perceive you?

Like if you are going to attend a funeral, I might advice you to skip the tiara. And in the same way - if you are heading to a big opening of some cool art event, I would probably advice you to leave the small minimalistic pieces at home. Unless of course, you want to blend in with the blasé cool gallery assistants who always look grumpy and always always wear black.

2. WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?

Are you wearing a suit? Or a flowy dress? Or maybe a t-shirt with some cool shorts? What parts of your body does your outfit enhance and what parts does it mask?

Statement jewellery is often eye-catching so wear your jewellery pieces where you want the attention to be drawn.

3. DETERMINE THE RIGHT SIZE, LENGTH AND COLOR FOR YOUR JEWELLERY

Lets say you are going to a nice cocktail party and have chosen a beautiful necklace to go with your romantic dress. How should you wear it? Should you wear it long or should you wear it short?

I would say it depends on your neckline. Does your dress have a v-neck neckline? Is it off shoulder, does it have spaghetti straps or is it maybe a halterneck? Then v-neck might go best with a longer necklace, while we often see the off shoulder neckline paired with a stunning choker.

The same goes when considering the color. Does it complement the dress? Does it blend in or pop out? What do you want it to do?

4. COMBINE

When combining statement jewellery I often hear people giving the advice of “focusing on one main piece”. And yes, that often gives that “centerpiece” the most attention. But despite that, I am not a fan of the “less-is-more” club and I believe in breaking the rules. If you want to combine metals (today trendy, yesterday a big no-no) do it! Or if you want to wear both big earrings AND a big necklace – do it! Done correctly the rule breaking often creates more interesting effects than when we stick to the rules.

Instore magazine has made a collection of statement necklaces seen at the 2024 golden globe gala

The rule is that there are no rules

So the most important rule in my opinion is that – there are no rules! What ever YOU feel comfortable with, what ever YOU think is beautiful or whatever YOU think makes your look hot – go with it!

Statement jewellery is here to make heads turn and your outfit pop! So what ever you think goes well with your outfit – just go for it! You are expressing your own persona after all :)

Well that´s it for today!

Good luck! And please send us pictures of how you have styled your favorite statement jewellery!
