Our materials

We use a wide range of materials in our jewellery. We generally try to find sturdy and STRONG materials that will keep their shape even if they are exposed to every day wear and tear. Many of our jewellery pieces have different platings of precious metals such as gold, silver and rhodium and are ornamented with semi-precious stones, crystals or cubic zirconia.

Our jewellery comes from different manufacturers from France, China, Spain and Turkey. And we are constantly on the look out for new partnerships that could deliver even more amazing and colorful jewellery for you.

We also continuously have a dialog with all our manufacturers to make sure that the materials in the jewellery are free from nasties such as nickel, lead or cadmium.

Base materials

BRASS: Brass is an alloy, which means that it´s a mix of different metals. In this case copper and zinc. Brass is a very good material to make jewellery of, basically because it is much harder than many other metals and alloys. Hardness is important because it helps to prevail the jewellery intact even with regular wear and tear. So if you happen to bang your big ring against the counter and nothing happens – it´s probably made of brass.

STAINLESS STEEL: Stainless steel is also an alloy. It is made of a mixture of iron, carbon and chromium. Stainless steel is even stronger than brass. It has a higher melting point, and thus, is more difficult to melt and mold. This means that it is not as easy to make detailed designs with it.

ZINC: Zinc is also used as a component in alloys. When it occurs in jewellery it is usually mixed with either aluminium or copper. Zinc is also very durable and versitile, making it popular for more intricate designs.

Platings

Most of our jewellery are plated. That means that a thin layer of some other, often precious, metal is put on top of the base metal. This gives the jewellery a different look and also helps to prevent tarnishing. Our platings are usually made with gold, silver or rhodium.

Stones

CRYSTALS: Crystals can be made of quartz, which is a stone, or they can be made of plastic, glass or acrylic. Crystals are softer than fex cubic zirconia which means that they are more prone to get scratched. Read more about how to best care for your jewellery down below.

CUBIC ZIRCONIA: Cubic zirconia is made of zirconium dioxide and is the one man-made sparkling gemstone that is most similar to real diamonds. In fact only a trained eye can differentiate a cubic zirconia from a natural diamond! Cubic zirconia is hard and the hardness not only gives it protection against scratches, it also makes it possible to cut the gemstones in many different shapes.

NATURAL SEMI-PRECIOUS STONES: Some of our jewellery have natural semi-precious stones such as amethysts, onyxes or turquoises.

Other materials

RESIN: Resin is a liquid compound which hardens and creates a very light, durable material that is easy to color in many different colors. As an example, the frames for sunglasses and regularglasses are often made of resin.

GLASS: Some of our jewellery have glass-beads

Jewellery care

Some materials like brass and zinc can tarnish. These materials react to the oxygen in the air, to the acidity in our sweat, to the oil in our skin and to being exposed to perfumes, lotions and other chemicals.

Other materials such as stainless steel and titanium steel does not tarnish or rust thanks to the chromium that is added to them.

To prevent tarnishing our jewellery often has a plating of some other metal such as gold, silver or rhodium.

To keep your jewellery good looking, despite of its material:

- Remove the jewellery before showers, swimming and washing hands.

- Don´t wear jewellery to the gym or when you go out running.

- Store your jewellery separate, preferably in a pouch. This will prevent it from scratching against other jewellery.
